The primary reason why I go to conventions is to get ideas to write. At the last convention I attended, (A-kon) I got about 28 different ideas just sitting at a table. I'm sure if I had walked around more, I would have gotten more. Some of the best ideas I've gotten were at conventions. However, I don't go just to get ideas; I also like meeting the stars, talking to fellow people, etc.

I go to sell my books and meet publishers and (potential) fans. I sometimes buy comicking supplies and very rarely comics (usually rare ones by Junko Mizuno).

So far I've never been in the same city as any conventions. There is a sci-fi convention in my city just as leave for my home town for summer. So that sucks.

well, the two cons i've attended in my life time (one more based on american comics, the second completely anime) my greatest joy was seeing other artists and supporting them. I usually refuse to buy much of anything out of the dealer's room other than japanese drinks and snacks. The artist's alley has just an awesome atmosphere, my friends and i had such a great time at my table, it was just the best. True, i was extremely unprepared and didn't have much to sell...i think i evened out selling earrings and chibi drawings. But the inspiration!! Truly worth it.
