What research

xXRed13Xx; Saturday, December 29, 2007 - 14:33

What research actually says that the world is going to end in 2012?
I know we are screwing up the planet but it's barely going to affect us in our lifetime, we are just messing it up for future generations.

Ren-chancrusade; Saturday, December 29, 2007 - 15:29

The mayan's predicted the world would end in 2012 and they were right about their prediction about their civilization ending due to europeans so...some people believe that they could be right about this to. My friend found a book at B. Dalton all about it and how we should prepare.

Not to sound cynical... but what a load of cr*p. No offence to anyone who believes in these sorts of things but I just think it's ridiculous.

Reiko Kitsune; Monday, December 31, 2007 - 04:37

First off, please don't say "dumb spiritual force" I am religious and I find it offensive.

Honestly though, I don't think the world is going to end in 2012, maybe within the next thirty years, but 2012, come on people, wasn't it the Mayans that believed that the world had already ended 4 times, if they are going to call it scientifically research, then they should find a way to prove or disprove that before they make any claims based on the Mayan's predictions.

Neila; Monday, December 31, 2007 - 22:18

From what I've heard, the way the mayan calandar was set up the cicle ended in 2012 true, but its was a cicle so it started over at the begining. The calandar was increadibly accurate for the time, and still is considered very accurate but as to predicting the future and calamaty that remains to be seen. We can always wait until 2012 to see who's right though, no sense in worrying over it.

killijoy; Friday, January 4, 2008 - 15:15

Aww, Joey. Honestly, if you're going to die, do you really CARE about your Masters? That's when I'd take a flight to Japan, so that way I could see it before I die. You know?

Also, I hate talking about impending doom, although I do enjoy the four horse story in Revelations: war, famine, pestilance, and death will come riding in at the world's end and wipe out the human race. Unfortunately, that is exactly what is happening now, but hey.

Some people like the thought the world is gonna end, but I am certainly terrified of it.

Thus my morning is off to a fantastic start! xP

It's not the fact that I won't be able to finish my degree that bugs me; it's the fact that I wasted time on school when the end was so near! xD

The thing about predictions

quamp; Saturday, January 5, 2008 - 03:21

The thing about predictions about the end of the world is that they have a tendency not to come true.

A lot of religions stated the world would end in 2000. It didn't.
Of course, the world could be completely ruined by 2012 if we continue on the course that we're going on... thanks to Georgie's environmentally wasteful policies. :(

IIRC, in an episode of The Awful Truth, Michael Moore tracked down a cult that said the world would end at a specific day and time. He then called them up at that day and time and asked them why the world isn't ending. They hung up on him.

Aww! I remember that! People were scared that computers would implode on themselves because they didn't have a setting for 2000. People were even stockpiling on food to prepare.

I'm Sorry Everyone

DreamingSoul; Monday, January 7, 2008 - 18:43

I'm gonna regret saying this, but so far as other aspecst on this topic go... Well... there are some signs that would indicate the coming of Armageddon... Famine, pestalence(sp?), Wars, and rumors of wars. And of course the ever growing malice of humanity. Oh, and for those of you on this site who are 14 and younger, and have had any dreams of any of the categories I mentioned that's another sign. XD

Yes I have dreams, and fate seems to place me among others with dreams like mine.

Joamette Gil; Tuesday, January 8, 2008 - 02:21

Anyone with eyes can see all of that stuff going on. ;p But then those same things have never really stopped in the whole history of man. There's always been famine, pestilence, war, etc. It's just in different places at different times (and in different degrees).

Yeah, but...

DreamingSoul; Tuesday, January 8, 2008 - 03:55

Yeah but this is different...Another thing that is said to happen is trouble in the middle east( Preferably Iserael.) And Hell's breaking loose over there as we speak, as well as in Iraq. And this one shows no signs of ending... Also false prophets are popping up, and the currency is changing... We're using faster methods to pay for stuff.

Yeah but did nuclear weapons exist 100 years ago? THATS what we should worry 'bout when talking about the end of the world...

Oh, nukes are a major threat, no doubt. I'm not saying the world is definitely NOT coming to an end; I'm saying that I don't take anything in the Bible (or any book) as gospel (sorry for that pun).

Sorry, had a moment. I don't think the world is gonna end. I mean, everyone says "2012 this" and "2012 that" but really, I think it is just one of those incorrect assumptions that gets around to everyone, like the one that says scrubbing harder gets rid of zits. Not true in the slightest but everyone has heard of it.

So my advice to you is just to be a sweet pickle and everything will turn out for you in life - everything.

Yeah but...

Rocko; Thursday, January 10, 2008 - 17:03

Yeah but...if we don't do something about the state of the world soon...we might as well all just kill our selves now...
and heck...the planet could do with out us anyway......

of course...the thing about predictions...you can't always take them literally, and then there's mistranslations and stuff...all this "end of the world" stuff could simply be a prediction of the end of say...a "World order" or something like that...

Mistranslation

furubafan3; Friday, January 18, 2008 - 22:57

I thought that the term end in the King james version of the bible was just mistranslated. I'm not a relegious person myself but it could be possible.

That would make sense. There are tons of mistranslations in the bible. For example the beast numbers are actually supposed to be 616.

Actually, I believe a

Joamette Gil; Saturday, January 19, 2008 - 02:41

Actually, I believe a professor of mine was once explaining to us that the beast number was a direct reference to a specific Roman emperor... which would mean that the beast already came and went centuries ago. o.o

I do know that the word "day" as used in the Bible (particularly in the book of Genesis) was translated from a word that literally meant "period of time." So if God did make the universe/Earth, it's could've taken him 7 millenniums rather than 7 days.

Then there's the whole issue of the Bible being incomplete. The original compilation of the scrolls into a unified "Bible" was decided upon by a council assembled by the pagan emperor Constantine, and volumes-worth of writings were purposefully edited out and simply excluded from the Bible. All of these are referred to as the gnostic texts, I believe....
