Warning: this story has a few things that may make some of the more sensitive people upset.
TAMPA - Patricia Elalem said she couldn't believe her daughter's kneecap dislocated after what at first seemed like a minor injury.
Even more troubling to Elalem is what might have caused the injury to worsen. Elalem says a nurse at Walker Middle School in Odessa [FL] took away 13-year-old Amber's crutches last month, forcing the girl to walk in pain.
Yes, even though there were a few quick exams the school nurse could have done to determine whether or not she needed crutches, the nurse still took away her crutches.
They did it all the time at my school. Once, a diabetic girl was sent to reform school for the rest of her academic life. The reason? She had sugar pills in her purse. Even though I had a doctor's note, I had to give my allergy medication to the school nurse, who often wasn't there when I needed it.
So if she had been paralyzed and came to school in a wheelchair, they would have dumped her on the floor. Lovely, isn't it?
You know, we seem to have become one nation under paranoia. The family will sue, of course. Naturally, this all could have been prevented, but someone didn't bother to take the time to do that.
This is another thing that bugs me. Of late, people seem to refuse to take the time to do the job right, or listen fully to explanations about motivtions for mistakes.
