What'cha Readin'?

General Discussion Sinn - Wednesday, January 24, 2007 - 15:09

What comics are you kids chewing up these days? Amerikan, Japanese, Korean, or fuggin' Belgian - nation of origin just doesn't matter.

Me, I just got a shipment in from SLG; I feel like an advertising whore saying this, but they're havin' a 25% off sale until the end of January so get in on the cheapness while it lasts.

Last night I went on a bit of a reading spree getting through the 5-issue series "Vaistron" - you'll see a review of that later. For now it suffices to call it futuristic, female led anti-hero goodness with Vasquezian undertones. I've also been going through the "Serenity Rose" series and, my personal favorite, Brian Wood's "DMZ." Damn, there's nothing like a second Amerikan civil war to cheer up my day...good times...

Yet you expect me to care, to care about you.

Now you're staring at me, You stare at me as your love fades to grey.

What did you expect, Did you expectg me to love, love you with a heart I've never had?

Well, she didn't really hide

Reiko Kitsune; Wednesday, January 24, 2007 - 23:58

Well, she didn't really hide it.

My little sister got my old room when I was away over the summer, so I live in the basement till my wall is put up.
During the 'trade' most of my stuff was put into boxes and put. . . somewhere. Bottom line, I can't find any of my Manga, my mom dosen't know where it is, and she never really liked it to begin with. Maybe coincidence.
(Apparently I had agreed to the room switch at one point, I don't remember)

Yeah, I'm doing some POD

EpsilonZero; Thursday, January 25, 2007 - 00:53

Yeah, I'm doing some POD comics for the local convention, and I don't get an allowance, so I'm basically saving my lunch money for the next 7 months to afford it! Therefore, I have been very low on reading material.

I tried to resort to the local library system, but they don't quite get the concept of SEQUENTIAL VOLUMES! For goodness sake, how hard is it to order Vol. 1 instead of Vol.14? Ug.

Look Its Nichole; Thursday, January 25, 2007 - 01:48

Libraries always have like Vol. 5, 8 and 15...they never have them in order and they never have the first volumes.

:)

ikonowi; Thursday, January 25, 2007 - 01:57

Not true. My library has a very good selection. They buy the books in order and the manga section is a whole wall on the back.

I checked it out but I haven't gone lately. I guess I'll go tommorow on my day off... I'll tell you what I get then.

right, so I just plugged

Sinn; Friday, January 26, 2007 - 02:28

right, so I just plugged away the "Serenity Rose" series from SLG.
...Damn. Go out and order, buy, or steal this book. If you find it at borders I highly reccomend you at least just read it from cover to cover in the stores.

Go. Do it. Do it now.

It's got witches, honesty, non-cliched plotlines, a critique of the commercial side of counter-cultures, and massive ectoplasmic ponies.

rabbitpiss; Monday, January 29, 2007 - 09:05

hmm.. i haven't read any comics lately. I'd love to buy some. I'm getting a job making burgers next month so I'll post here again in a couple of weeks?

I'd really would like to start with the comic David'd picked off from some website and posted them in the News forum. Oh and the latest Blue Monday comic. God, I love Blue Monday. Onipress makes good comics.

>.<

If I wasn't so busy trying to keep up my grades so that I can keep taking a student loan so that I can afford to buy comics, I would actually read them.

Stupid grading scales.

I read a Harlequin Romance

Hairballed Kat; Sunday, February 11, 2007 - 22:23

I read a Harlequin Romance Manga a couple of weeks ago... it was incredibly bad. The ink was pink! I like getting really bad stuff at the library...

But I did find a very cute comic book with no words called A.L.I.E.E.E.N., by Lewis Trondheim. It was a strange cute little thing, I had to renew it so I could get Sam to read it.

Just as a follow-up, I did

Joamette Gil; Wednesday, March 28, 2007 - 18:06

Just as a follow-up, I did actually finish that Tim O'Brien book last month (The Things They Carried), which you should all go read immediately for it is very good indeed. :)

This past Friday, I finished reading Alexander Berkman's Now and After: The ABC of Communist Anarchism. It is truly wonderful. I don't care who you are what you believe in--you have to read it.

Please? :3

Now I'm working on Walden by Henry David Thoreau a.k.a. the original hippie. His words inspire both awe and shame. u_u

Just finished up Neil

Sinn; Wednesday, March 28, 2007 - 19:22

Just finished up Neil Gaiman's American Gods. It's a fantastic novel; the man can really tell a story.

Right now, I'm getting through The Conquest of Bread by Pyotr Kropotkin. He was a Russian Prince-turned-Anarchist Communist and geologist. It's basically a book meant to show the viablity of a moneyless, industrial society. It's pretty good.

Also I'm getting through The Devil's Anarchy which focuses on a pair of Dutch pirates and argues that piracy was a form of social rebellion and a reaction to the deplorable sailors faced in the 17th and 18th centuries.

Finally I snagged a copy of Action Girl issue 13. It's got some cool short stories in a halloween theme. I think my favorite is "The Invasion of the Cat Girls from Outer-Space" by Dwyer. A-Girl rocks.

I don't realy have time, or

Dungionman 3; Thursday, July 19, 2007 - 13:15

I don't realy have time, or $ to read much manga, but my brother goes 2 a library for his tuter and I sneak the borrowed ones. he just got his card so I havent gotten much. He borrowed Naruto comics (1-5) and those were cool, I liked the part with the "ninja center fold".
and where he did that combined with the thing that makes a buncha those. It was so funny, I wanted 2 eat a potato! (although that has nothing 2 do with it.)
