Rise Against - Give It All - Driving, Melodic punk rock. The lead singer, Tim McIllwrath once said, "We don't think of ourselves as a political punk band, because all punk rock is political." X was a seminal LA punk band, late 70's-early 80's. Their lyrics didn't get particularly political until their fourth album (particularly with the stunning song I Must Not Think Bad Thoughts) but their biting commentary about LA society was present from the beginning. There are a lot of songs about relationships and life as poor, undiscovered punk musicians, too.

They're sort of artsy and all of them are superb musicians, and the singing is done duet style, which is amazing. The girl (Exene Cervenka) and the guy (also the bassist, John Doe) were married while the band was together and their voices play off of one another incredibly well.
