Ok, just to show my utter nerdiness:

Classic Rock bands I enjoy:
Jethro Tull
CCR
Seatrain
Tom Petty
Grateful Dead
Traveling Wilberries
Beatles
Rolling Stones
Aerosmith (their old stuff, not the new stuff XP)
Arlo Guthrie
Cream
Led Zeplin

New bands I enjoy:
Franz Ferdinand
The Killers
... That's pretty much it.

Oh, and grunge, I still enjoy stuff like Live and Pearl Jam (some of it) and Sublime and stuff. I think they're calling it "buzz" now? Eh, can't remember.

Now I feel old. And I'm only 21. Anyone else on here over the age of 20?

lemme look across me playlists

Sinn; Monday, February 5, 2007 - 23:39

Some of the bands that keep me going in this island of popped collars and "nantucket red" (re: pink for wealthy homophobes)

Billy Bragg ("liberated" cds + an avowed communist folk singer = good times)
Bad Religion (as always)
Ani Difranco
Anti-Flag
Against All Authority
Tsunami Bomb (Agent M, please marry me!)
Big D and the Kids Table
Black Flag
Against Me! (delicious folk-punk)
A Silver Mount Zion Memorial Orchestra and Tra-la-la band

Catch-22 (Hailing from New Jersey - the land of ska)
Streetlight Manifesto (see above statment)
Bratmobile
The Capones (a band born of the Dupage suburbs that's no longer with us)
The Clash
The late, great Joe Strummer
Johnny Cash
The Descendents (for every nerdy kid who got picked on in school)
The Distillers (hee hee... Brody Dalle)
Dummyrun (they got a street-punk/Rancid thing going on)
Rancid
The Epoxies (Where New Wave meets driving Punk, happiness is found)
F-Minus
Flipsyde (Revolutionary Hip-hop)
Flogging Molly (who put on the greatest live show...ever.)

Green Day (okay, I admit it - I liked American Idiot...*o_o)
The Horrorpops (When did the Danes get so good at psychobilly?)
Immortal Technique (see Flipsyde)
Joan Jett and the Blackhearts (Godmother of punk + hottest 48-year-old ever + "Fetish" = music so good you start salivating like Pavlov's dogs)
K.M.F.D.M. (industrial happiness)
Lacuna Coil
Less than Jake
Letters to Cleo
Living End
The Messengers (riot girl punk)
The Methadones (driving pop-punk - think Screeching Weasel, not Blink 182)

Minor Threat
Much the Same
None More Black
The Offspring (pre-Americana)
Operation Ivy (the spirit of '87 lives on)
The Pistol Poets (Folk-punk from Southern Illinois)

Raised Under Reagan (hard political punk from Shreveport, Lousiana of all places)
Reagan Youth
Rise Against (god I love them... physically...while they sleep)
Save Ferris (and they say women can't front ska bands)
Screeching Weasel (perhaps the best band ever to emerge from Chicago)
Sex Bomb (French Ska)
Sister Machine Gun (Electronica/Industrial offshoot from K.M.F.D.M.)
The Slackers (Ska/Reggae goodness with a political edge - perfect for listening to while reading Evan Dorkins comics)
Sleater-Kinney
The Smiths (they say Morrisey gels his hair with the souls of the damned)
Smoke or Fire
The Soviettes (Best. Riot. Grrl. Band. Ever.)
The Specials (Second-wave Ska)
Strike Anywhere (Maybe the best political hardcore punk in the scene today)
Subhumans (The British Anarcho-punk band, I don't know about the Canadian one)

The Tossers (Chicago punk band made up of Irish immigrants)
Western Addiction

wow...didn't realize the list was this long...*o_o...

The treasures of youtube

Sinn; Tuesday, February 6, 2007 - 05:24

just a few music videos I'd reccomend.
The Living End - Wake Up - an Australian punk-a-billy band with melodic influences
http://youtube.com/watch?v=DVNtnZftJn4
Against me! - From Her Lips to God's Ears - Anarchist folk-influenced punk from Gainsville, Florida.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=aGZ1tuOsUJw
Bad Religion - American Jesus - Were crucial in establishing a SoCal punk sound and presence in the early 1980's. They continue to the present day as one of the most respected and reknown punk bands of all time. The lead singer, Greg Graffin, is a professor of evolutionary biology at Cornell in his spare time.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=0otxExBhjic
The Soviettes - Multiply and Divide - one of the foremost players of modern pop-punk (not to be confused with power-pop such as Blink 182, Simple Plan or Good Charlotte). They adeptly weave in various harmonies. Everyone in the band sings.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=m1nlZCZCWJw&mode=related&search=
The Epoxies - Synthesized - Roxy Epoxxy and her crew blend the best of the New Wave's synthetic, artificial melodies with a strain of driving pop-punk that results in, you know, goodness.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=Cufnu_dJc-4
The Distillers - The Young Crazed Peeling - Street punk with a scratched, hoarse melody to it, Brody Dalle of the distillers, to butcher an over-used quote, "has a voice like a dump truck full of gravel with a broken axel - but she hits every note"
http://youtube.com/watch?v=guphM5szg44
Rise Against - Give It All - Driving, Melodic punk rock. The lead singer, Tim McIllwrath once said, "We don't think of ourselves as a political punk band, because all punk rock is political." Side note - I'm in this video. During the cutaways to the L-train, look for the spaz with glasses in the upper right hand corner. That's me about 2.25 years ago.

X was a seminal LA punk

Hairballed Kat; Sunday, February 11, 2007 - 21:56

X was a seminal LA punk band, late 70's-early 80's. Their lyrics didn't get particularly political until their fourth album (particularly with the stunning song I Must Not Think Bad Thoughts) but their biting commentary about LA society was present from the beginning. There are a lot of songs about relationships and life as poor, undiscovered punk musicians, too.

They're sort of artsy and all of them are superb musicians, and the singing is done duet style, which is amazing. The girl (Exene Cervenka) and the guy (also the bassist, John Doe) were married while the band was together and their voices play off of one another incredibly well.

Pull down the future with the one you love.
