I need help choosing an MP3

rabbitpiss's picture
General Discussion rabbitpiss - Sunday, March 11, 2007 - 20:17

I use to have an MP3 (Creative Zen Neeon) called Freddie. But he died. I made him fall into a tub of water. Accidentally. Anyway, we had a funeral and everything for him. I sang songs. It was miserable these last months without him.

I said in my blog anyways I would ask you guys about what MP3 player I should buy this time round cos you guys seem much more technologically savvy than me. I don't want to buy any Creative brand anymore because they'd always go insane on me. Well, maybe not. But I'm a forgiving person.

What would you reccomend I buy? Please give me good reasons. I get so jealous of people with MP3s to keep them company and warm at night and in the train.

I don't have one

Crayola; Sunday, March 11, 2007 - 21:34

I don't have one (in all honestly MP3 players scare me), but my brother has a Sandisk. Not sure of the type though, he won't tell me, but I THINK it's a SanDisk Sansa c250. According to YAHOO!Shopping it comes with an FM tuner, "Plays MP3, WMA, WAV and protected WMA DRM" and has 2 GB memory. And my brother claims it's "FREAKING AWSOME."

If I ever get over my irrational fear of MP3 players and iTunes I'd buy one for myself.

Meh

xXRed13Xx; Monday, March 12, 2007 - 02:33

Ipods... meh :S they are good don't get me wrong, I actually own one. But there are lots of annoying things about them. They only run on iTunes, it's not a click and drag mp3 it works on your iTunes playlist, so if your playlist changes (for example you reboot your computer or you delete a load of your songs by accident) then you can't just add new songs onto your iPod, you have to delete all the songs on your iPod and add the new playlist.

There are better Mp3s out there you just have to do the research, it all depends how much space you will need, how much you are willing to spend and lots of other things.

They have them in red......

I want one.

Anyway you should get an Ipod. My friend has the little new shuffle but it only has like 1GB. But its cute and the teachers can't see it when I listen to it in class.

But, if you get an Mp3, I will ask my friend what kind she has. Its really pretty. Its reds and its like a looong oval and holds like 3,000 songs. At Least thats what she told me. I just listen to it.

Hairballed Kat; Monday, March 12, 2007 - 19:41

I have something from the Creative line, and I'm glad. Most of the people I know with iPods complain about how buggy they are and what a pain putting music on them is. The biggest complaint is the lithium batteries, which go bad after a certain amount of time and are expensive to replace. My Zen Nano Plus doesn't hold much, but it's pretty sturdy and has never given me the tiniest problem. The fact that I don't need iTunes is incredibly freeing, since as long as I bring my cord I can plug it into any computer's usb port to drop off or take some music.

Sansa is another good Mp3 company, try looking at their line.

Then I lost it! >< *smacks self*

Caramel; Tuesday, March 13, 2007 - 01:36

I have an iPod nano. But I wanted a red one....

Oh yeah, one more thing. It's kinda what Red said. Because you can only sync an iPod to one computer/playlist at a time, if you change computers you have to erase everything and download whatever's on the current computer. A pain really, if you don't have your regular computer with you. *sobs*

rabbitpiss; Tuesday, March 13, 2007 - 03:47

To be honest, 1 Gigs is really little. Like midget little. I was thinking around 40 Gigs?

My old mp3 had a voice recorder, an fm recorder as well as an fm tuner.

My sis has an iPod Shuffle. One day she deleted the Queen and Beatles stuff she hates from her iPod and the whole thing just wasn't there on iTunes anymore. Oh noes! They were the only place I kept those Beatles files. I sure gave her a good smackin'.

I have a laptop now though. Hoho. ^o^

I'll try looking at Sansa.

Caramel: Yeah they don't allow you to have more than one play list at a time, but that is to prevent people from stealing music...

Rabbit: That was your sisters fault, to get something off your ipod you don't have to delete it from your main library. Instead you make play lists with the songs you want on it...

Iko

xXRed13Xx; Tuesday, March 13, 2007 - 12:46

Iko you still have to delete it from your Itunes library. You can keep it on your computer, and play it with windows media player, or you can play it on iTunes and delete it every time you have finished listening. But your Ipod will try to take every song that is in your Itunes library.

Apple are essentially selfish pr*cks, they make their hardware only compatible with their software so you have to use theirs and no one elses.

Apple are stingy (sp?) as hell, where I work we get 10%-30% discount on everything in the store from cds to consoles, we get discounts from Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo and many other companies. But when it comes to anything Apple that we sell... discount please? "NO F*CK OFF WE ARE APPLE... NO DISCOUNT FOR YOU*.
And not getting a discount on Apple products in a shop that sells a few iPods, speakers, etc is lame but whatever. The people who work the other side of the shopping centre in the Apple store don't get a discount either, plus they get paid less than us.

And rabbit I strongly doubt you need 40gb unless you want to have lots of movies on your mp3. 40gb would be about 8000 songs I think.

No

ikonowi; Tuesday, March 13, 2007 - 14:35

No actually you can go to you preferences and choose the play lists you want on your ipod, or just uncheck the little box next to the song. If you can still have all your songs on your library on you computer, and only have select songs on your ipod.

After connecting your ipod to your dock, this screen pops up.

Then you click on the music tab. And select the playlists you want.

Know what you're talking about first...

xXRed13Xx; Tuesday, March 13, 2007 - 15:08

Hmm I can't do that just messed around with Itunes.
I have a very old Ipod maybe that is it.
But I can't do what you are doing, or get onto any of those screens.

I don't get the same screens as you, I have an option which says update selected playlists only, but that just changes the playlists I update, it still takes my whole library aswell.

xXRed13Xx; Tuesday, March 13, 2007 - 15:27

Unless you are a DJ or something similar, why would you need that much music?

I have 2 days straight of music on my Ipod and that is plenty, I replace a couple of songs I don't listen to much anymore when I find some new good ones. But I only have 4gb, 80gb would be what 40 days straight of music? When will you listen to all that :S To have that much on your computer ok maybe you want a huge collection, but who would need 40 days of music to carry around with them :S

You can use the rest of that storage for photos, calendars, contacts and notes. You can also drag and drop files to your ipod icon on your desktop and use it like an USB device.

Well, my Ipod just died on

Sinn; Wednesday, March 14, 2007 - 03:12

Well, my Ipod just died on me. I mean just died - as in 4 hours ago. I was walking around and all of a sudden it stopped playing. I look down and checked it and it was blank. I figured that the batteries just died, but it won't charge, turn on, or even boot up when plugged into my computer. F*ckin' piece of slag.

I think I'm going to go in on the Creative Line, I've heard they're a lot more reliable.

So

xXRed13Xx; Thursday, March 15, 2007 - 16:33

So Iko, seeing as you seem to be in the know about Ipods...

My Ipod is full of songs, but all the songs on my Ipod were lost from my computer when I rebooted to get rid of some viruses.

I now have 5 or 6 songs that I want to add to my Ipod. Is there anyway I can just add those 5 or 6 songs? Or do I have to download all the songs that I lost all over again?

So you lost all of the music on your library... That's really sad.

No, you can't add those songs on without deleting the ones on your ipod. If you still had those songs in your library, I would only be a matter of seconds to get them on your ipod.

I'd want the mint one. "What the crap is a chockolate phone?" you are asking at home? Well, only the new thingy that's a phone and an MP3 in one! Yea! Now in the crappy exuse for a future: the present, Every thing has a lowercase i or e. T.T Crazy, huh? If you just want MP3 "A la cart" I want argile, I sugjest plad.

WaterFaerie; Thursday, July 26, 2007 - 16:02

The Sansa M240 (those wierd shaped ones that are usually in the clear case because no other case fits them) work good, but don't get the jukebox thing that comes with it. It can be tricky because then it will program itself to a certain USB setting. But - it does work good and holds 1GB of info, also equipped with a recorder. :)

So my advice to you is just to be a sweet pickle and everything will turn out for you in life - everything.

My sister had a Creative Zen

Reiko Kitsune; Friday, October 19, 2007 - 02:44

My sister had a Creative Zen thingy, it committed suicide over six times so the store upgraded her to an iPod, it took a swam dive in the lake this summer so she now has a new one, we're waiting to see how long it lasts.

The iPod I have is 1gb, it is also I think a second generation nano. I got it second hand last year and I have never had any probems with it. My little sister uses a Samsung some-thing-or-other and it works for her, but absolutely NO ONE ELSE!
