Cloverfield

General Discussion Plant - Thursday, December 20, 2007 - 00:40

Does anybody know something about Cloverflield I don't? I don't even know if "Cloverfield" is still just the project name or if they've decided to make it the movie's name.
And what about the monster? I reckon the best bet is the lobster-looking thing, some people reckon it's godzilla but the logic they use is pretty dodgy, and besides, would godzilla really do New York twice? The poor girl didn't get a warm reception the first time (yes I DO know godzilla died at the end of the movie). Also, would the army not know what it was if it was just another godzilla?

I had seen the clip before Transformers and I really wanted to find out what the movie was, I can't wait to see it and finally find out what all the secretism is about.

I think it looks kind of cool, but I'm still unsure if I think it would be worthwhile.

I wanna see it the day it comes out

Plant; Friday, December 28, 2007 - 06:33

The only problem are the twin issues of cost and someone to go with. The day I say the trailer I was alone ='(

Hmm, my dad will take me, or even my brother if I tell him that this counts as the birthday gift he never gave me last year.

I thought it was pretty good, though the ending seemed a little odd. Its still one of the better movies out right now.

It's okay, but then I'm not a big Will Smith fan. That and the CGI monsters weren't very good at all.

~Potential spoilers~ I

Reiko Kitsune; Tuesday, January 8, 2008 - 22:22

~Potential spoilers~

I didn't really like it, Will Smith played a scientist who actually seemed pretty ignorant on the creatures he was trying to cure, the story could have been way different if he had just payed attention to hoe the creatures acted and reacted.

~Minor spoiler~

COME ON! You comment that you take a female creature and an obviously male creature chases after you and you pass it off as a failed survival instinct, if you use you're head you know he's going to hunt you down.

~End of Spoilers~

Sorry, it was a decent movie, but certain little things like that bugged me.

You missed the point, Reiko. ;p The fact that he saw it that way was supposed to illustrate just how un-human HE was becoming from spending years in isolation (because protecting a loved one was the most natural, human thing that creature could have done). It's irony! =D

I enjoyed it a lot, but I agree that it could have been better. This is why I plan to read the book.

Love IS survival instinct

Plant; Thursday, January 10, 2008 - 09:26

I watched a documentary about it.
First step: You choose a suitable mate based upon the physical and mental characteristics you want to pass on to your offspring.
Second step: You become infatuated, you can't get them out of your head, you'd do anything for them. This is to get their attention and win their affection.
Third step: Your feelings are mutual and hormones drive you to have sex over and over to concieve a child.
Final step: Chemicals released into the brain during said sex and the subsequent cuddling have forged a bond to the other person, designed to keep you together to raise the child and concieve more. If humans din't have such free thought we could never break free of this bond.
All the "emotions" of love explained scientifically and logically, our imaginations have just lead us to see it as something more.

I have a tendency to wear my mind on my sleeve, I have a history of losing my shirt...
