Well first I’d say get

David Doub; Monday, July 16, 2007 - 15:47

Well first I’d say get someone to grammar check your manga (for example its spelled Advice). Then I’d ask how far do you want to go with this manga? Let me give you an example of two opposite extremes.

First, one an easy way would be to post it at a Webcomic site like DrunkDuck.com. They already have most of the basic tools in place for a webcomic, you just have to upload the images. After you start upload the comic, then you could go to webcomic forums and link sites to promote the comic there. All done.

Second is the hard way. Start shopping it around to various publishers. Make sure you have a clean package to send them. Cover letter with your details and a brief synopsis page to describe the story. Some publishers don’t take unsolicited material so you’d have to send them a letter requesting if the Editor would be interested in having you pitch your comic to them. Be prepared for various re-writes and re-draws from an editor if they do show an interest in the manga.

And the ultra hard is if no publisher won’t take your work, is to self publish, but that’s an article in of itself.

BTW, Carolyn, this isn't a live chat room. This is a message board and sometimes it takes time for people to reply. What you're doing could almost be considered spam.

Not trying to be mean, just trying to make your (and others) experince on MP to be a good one.

Thanx

Trunx; Monday, July 16, 2007 - 17:55

Yeah I have another writer who edits all my spelling. Because I get in a rush and I forget how to spell a lot of words lol. But yeah I was thinking of self publishing, but I know that'll take a lot and I don't have the time. But yeah thanx for the feed back. Anything you can recommend on self publishing?

First I would say test out

David Doub; Monday, July 16, 2007 - 19:53

First I would say test out the comic first. If you can do a cheap print run (like from say a copier) or even a chapter 1 issue, print that up and try to sell it at a local comic or anime convention (you have to get an artist alley table for that.) See how that goes and see how people respond. That should give you an idea of what to do next.

There’s a lot of different ways you can self publish. One way is going to an actual printer and ordering a huge print run up front. The trick with this is that you have to order a lot to get a good discount on the books. You can’t just order several hundred, it would be best to order several thousand. That’s a lot of money up front, but the idea is that you’ll make it all back (and then some). Ordering upfront, you can’t just go around selling copies at cons and to friends, you’d have to get a distributor to carry your manga as well. The good thing is that if the manga is large enough (say 100 pages are so), then you can possibly have book distributors to carry it. But even if a distributor carries your book, you have to then talk to shops to carry them. Considering books are returnable for retailer, they’re more willing to carry your book. Bad thing about returnable is that possibly all your copies can be sent back to you in the end.

Another way to self publish is to do print on demand. You don’t have to pre-order any books because they’re not made until someone actually buys a copy. This is really great for online sells (you’ll still have to get the word out yourself) and there are sites from Lulu.com iUniverse.com (Note some are free and some cost but come with a variety of editing and other services.) Some book stores are even getting into POD, but not completely and not all book stores, so that’s a bit of a minus for POD.

Yes,Carolyn. I hope this

WaterFaerie; Monday, July 16, 2007 - 23:10

Yes,Carolyn. I hope this isn't flaming, but that constant commenting is very - well, annoying to say the truth. If you really needed to say that, you could have thought it all out and put it into one well written, spell-checked comment.

But I did find your views very - um, interesting, even if they weren't related to the topic very well...
