Do you already have a host in mind?

I really need a list of free ones.

http://www.nightgig.com/ is a good host for artists and creative types. The only problem is that they're not open for new sites all the time. They keep control of their bandwidth.

There's always geocities: gives you a lot of freedom with the way your site will look, but the pop-ups and ads get really annoying in my opinion. I use FreeWebs because it's really easy to use and comes with some really nice pre-made layouts, blogging capabilities, chat capabilities, and gallery features. It's not as customizable as I'd like, but for starters it's really great.

I use Tripod. It's easy to use and has a wide variety of features, but I haven't figured out how to make custom themes yet, and the ones they provide aren't too attractive.

If it's a forum, freepowerboards.com is the only way to go!

Freewebs is generally good for a general website.

I can't think of any other hosts.
