Need Some Help With A Mecha Series

DreamingSoul's picture
Help! DreamingSoul - Monday, October 29, 2007 - 15:49

I just saw "Transformers", Christmas Day, and despite some critics I have about it, that movie's tight! XD And upon finally seeing it, I got inspired even more so to get on with my mecha series I started. I'm ask for an artist who's good at drawing Mecha, so that I can submit a Transforming mecha series... Sad to say, it was inspired by Michael Bay's Production of "Transformers," (Obviously...) but here's the story line:

The story is a race of robots who live on a planet called Mechrion were created by a sumpreme unit known as Omnicron. In order to protect itself from evil forces, Omnicron split himself into five smaller units, that if intergrated with any mechanical, or organic being, will bestow to the user incredible power.( possibily God like powers) Which is also why Omnicron fled to earth, and assimilated with five children to hide itself. Now these five children must work with their guardians, the Batallirons to protect the earth, and themselves from the Destructons.

Each child has a mechanical partner, and once they fuse together, is given a unique suit of armor, as well, as acceptional fighting skills, and the ability to conjure light vechiles from their own auras. Somewhat like what you might see in Tron,( For those of you who saw the movie in 1982, or perhaps a later date, or maybe played Kingdom Hearts II.) The Destructon Leader can create miniature drones from the earth, and use them as Armor that would increase his power, or to attack his foes. But he wishes to use Omnicron to reshape the universe.

Also I feel I should mention that I originally wanted to call the transforming Mecha The Batallia-bots, and The Destructi-cons, but someone pointed out that they sound too much like the auto-bots, and decepti-cons. And I also wanted to call the series "D.N.A Transformers." But I'd have to be associated with Hasbro, or Takara to even use the name "Transformers" in the title.

Also... I'm not going to sumbit this RSOM, but hopefully to Tokyopop, as a three part manga series. I'm also going to post what I've written down on the script of the tale, you may hate it, just to warn you.( The names of the individual transformers may seem basic, and some scenes in the story may not make any sense...

I know you said it's

Neila; Wednesday, October 31, 2007 - 14:26

I know you said it's inspired by the Transformer's movie, but to me it sounds like a combination of all the different Transformer series's there have been o_o with maybe a little bit of Gyver or FLCL.

I think at the very least you should change the names of your Heavey as I think one of the Transformers series had an "Omnicron" or "Unicron" or something along those lines as a badguy at one point. You're gonna need to dis-associate your story from transformers as much as possible, its ok to be inspired by, but there's a point at which its no longer simply "inspiration".

I love the idea of mechanical armor, always have, perhaps you could expand upon that or some other aspect of your idea?

Ha....Knew this would happen...

DreamingSoul; Sunday, November 4, 2007 - 05:41

I didn't think anyone would associate the name Omnicron with Unicron, but that's just another name I'll have to change, and a combination is what I was aiming for to tell you the truth...but I have to go with my back-up plan, although, I just realized how I could still make the mecha be from another planet, and still change the beginning of the story, though it may sound familiar, Imma just roll with it. Dispite similarities, I had made certain to make the overall storyline different, I even thought about giving Omnicron, an evil brother( Who doesn't have a name at the moment...) You're probably gonna suggest I go with it...And I will....man thanks....

Megatron and Optimus prime were brothers, so that would be another transformers similarity :D

Reiko Kitsune; Tuesday, November 6, 2007 - 21:43

I'm learning so much about transformers from this thread, I didn't even know I wanted to know that.

But now allot of thins make sense, sorta.

I've never has a heart, Never know love.

Yet you expect me to care, to care about you.

Now you're staring at me, You stare at me as your love fades to grey.

What did you expect, Did you expectg me to love, love you with a heart I've never had?

DreamingSoul; Tuesday, November 6, 2007 - 23:22

Yeah, but Megatron, and optimus aren't the overseers, and creators of Cybertron...*sigh* (Imma hate saying this) You see what I came up with as a background story is two mecha units that were originally one unit, created Mechrion, and the inhabitants... The evil brother created the Destructons, who desire power....and...*sigh* Red13 do you realize what you just did?

I think if you were to expand on another aspect of your story, rather than the alien robot conflict such as the fusing child robot idea.
I think the groups names sound too similar to Transformer's names, so perhaps dropping all the "crons" and "bots" and such?

There are alot of ideas I've seen, that have started as too similar to other works that, when developed have become their own works, only influenced slightly by the origional inspirations.

Also, I think looking for an artist solely based on the love of drawing Mech's is nice, but you must understand that an artist likely wont work on something they arnt interested in, or that they find may be trouble later (such as the similarities to Transformers in this story). I like Transformers, but I don't want to draw a story so similar to it.

My point Exactly....

DreamingSoul; Wednesday, November 7, 2007 - 19:13

That's why I'm looking for an artist, I'm not just looking for someone who just draws mecha, I'm looking for a partner who has a useful second opinion... I'm trying to find someone to collabarate with, so that we can create a story that has very little resemblance to "Transformers." Besides I had already changed The "Ballia-bots" to the "Battallirons", and the Destructi-cons" to "The Destructons." ( Stupid names I know, but hey, I'm not good with Team names.) And I understand how you feel. I don't like making duplicates of my favorite story archs either... Which is why, like I mentioned... I need an assistant to act as a second pair of eyes on this project...

That sounds more like a co-writer than an artist. An artist wants to draw, there are many artists out there that dont work on stories at all, they simply draw work for others because they dont like the hassel of writing. I think you'll be hard pressed to find an artist, both capable and willing to help you work out the kinks in your script before they draw it out.

That being said, one of the great things about MP is there are folks here willing to help one another out. So I suggest, for the "team names" you go for another word that means something similar to what defines each side. If "destruction" defines the badguys, look for a word that means "to destroy" or "demolish" or something with a similar connotation but that is perhaps an older form of the word not heard in general conversation. I think you should do the same for the good guys. The thing that bugs me most about the current group names you just said, is that they're difficult to pronounce. o_o Try saying "Battallirons" out loud >_> its not easy.

Contest?

David Doub; Friday, November 9, 2007 - 02:46

My question is why do you want to enter in Tokyopop's Rising Stars of Manga contest?

Do you like the thrill of competition? Do you enjoy creating comics? Are you looking to get published?

If you are looking to get published, why do it through a contest? Don’t get me wrong, there’s nothing wrong with getting published that way. But if you have a concept that you really believe in, why be rushed by a contest deadline? Why not take time to put a lot of good work into the comic, put a solid professional polish on it, and then submit it to various publishers?

And on the more practical side of the matter, do you really want to deal with Tokyopop and their contracts? I’m not saying their methods are bad or shady, but there are publishers out there that are more than willing to deal with you in a decent manner that Tokyopop is.

The hard fact about Tokypop is that they are a licensor, so they don’t really own any of the comics they publish. So all the ancillary money a company could make from movies to toothbrushes based on their characters can't happen. So they need properties (ie comics) that they own so they can make money off of them. Tokyopop is a business so they need sources of revenue, or the company stops existing.

The question for you is that do you want to tie your potential success up with Tokyopop, potentially giving them controlling rights to your creation? You might not even get that far, they may find your artist really talented and sign them away to work on a project that they are creating?

Just food for thought on what you really want to do with you comic. Just because it’s a contest by a big name publisher means that it’s the best plan for you and your work.

Look, I'm not doing this to please anybody... I can plainly see now that I'm just wasting my time trying to ask for help on something I'm not willing to do with my own two hands. I nearly scrapped this idea because of the opinions of others, and quite frankly I'm not gonna do that twice... I'm not good with names, and I'm not gonna waste time using something people are familar with...I'm not in this to please people, I just want to enter the stupid thing, and see where the chips fall, and if you're not gonna help then don't waste my time.

David Doub; Friday, November 9, 2007 - 04:48

I hope I didn't say anything to offend. I know I was just trying to offer more information to assist. I also know reading over this thread that everyone else has also tried to be helpful as well.

Creating comics is hard work, so there's going to be a fair amount of frustration involved in the process. Call it "birthing pains" if you want. So don't get discouraged, just work toward your vision and it will all be worth it when it's all said and done.

So good luck with your comic and we're here to help if you want it.

DreamingSoul; Friday, November 9, 2007 - 13:13

*sigh* I'm sorry, but yesterday, I had reached my limit... Y'see I expect alot from people... I don't expect stupid questions, and advice on of the obvious facts...I thought I'd get someone to help, no questions asked, until we started. Either that or a "yes," or "no." My request is that simple. If you're willing to help say "yes." If not willing to help, just say "no." And I'd understand. I don't need advising comment, after advising comment. All I'm looking for is an artist that's all, and if you're not gonna help. If you're gonna ask questions, state the obvious, and continue to add advice, you're wasting my time.

Yes I have dreams, and fate seems to place me among others with dreams like mine.

Ah, so we're giving the type

David Doub; Friday, November 9, 2007 - 14:57

Ah, so we're giving the type of help you’re not looking for. Unfortunately, we’re all a bit of free thinkers here and you did give enough data to start our minds a churning on your concept. That’s the problem when talking to creative types, their minds start to imagine things when you give it input like that.

That said, your post was 4 paragraphs long and was titled “Need Some Help for Rising Star Of Manga.”

If you just wanted an artist that followed orders, you should have stated that and only that “Need artist to draw my comic for Rising Star of Manga”. Can’t use words like assist or help, because we’re outgoing folks here and may just provide some of that help you don’t want.

By the way, this isn’t snark. Still trying to help here. In all honestly if you want an artist that follows orders in a manner to your liking, you’re probably going to have to pay one. Because if you get a free artistic partner they would ask you no end of questions and have plenty of their own opinions and advice. If you got upset at our simple help, a free artistic partner would drive you mad.

DreamingSoul; Friday, November 9, 2007 - 17:22

I am looking for a free thinking artist... I was just hoping we could save the commments when we started the project.... What part about that can't you understand? I'm not looking for some mindless pencil....But all I ask before hand is if you're willing to help then say so... If not then tell me, I'll understand... Besides another thing that factored into this equation that I overlooked is the fact that even if someone were willing to help they couldn't because of the distance between states, and continents.... Another factor is that slipped my mind, is that most people are looking for payment for this kind of work, of which I can't provide because I only work a part time job, and can't afford to pay what many would ask for... I am looking for a helpful assistant... But if all I'm gonna get out of this is just advice, and no one signing up then what's the point? Do you finally see what I'm saying?

If you're not willing to take "free" advice, than what makes you think anyone will believe you when you want help from an "assistant"? You don't make sense.
First you say you want help, then you refuse to accept the help.
No one will sign up for a story that they know nothing about.
You, the writer, have to do a certain amount of work before you even begin to think of working with an artist. That is to say, you must work out the kinks with a co-writer, and not an artist. There is a difference between the two.
Yes, a paying job would be good, but you could possibly find someone to work for free if you had a strong enough story that moved them to do so.
Drawing a comic is alot of work, it takes alot of time, alot of love and alot of patience; writing a comic is the same, but generally goes a bit quicker than the drawing portion. Never forget that.

You are going to be hard pressed to find anyone willing to work with you if you don't want anyone asking you questions, giving you input or wasting your precious time.

You say you expected someone to help no questions asked until you started. How can you seriously expect that? Why would someone jump into a project knowing nothing about it, you say you want an assistant who can also help you with input, but it sounds to me like you just want a drone to do what you want and not ask any questions.

Bottom line you came asking for help, we were just trying to help and you have just acted like a complete d*ck.

DreamingSoul; Saturday, November 10, 2007 - 15:53

I appreciate advice... What I don't appreciate is how no one after learning what the story was, will say whether they want to sign on or not. That's why I figured I was wasting time... If all I was gonna get was advice...and no one decided to sign on after advising for some changes... Then what's the point, I might as well do it myself. I am looking for an assistant, and you guys have shown me, you've got potential to be great assistants...( Though I only ask for one...) but if all I'm gonna get is a lecture then my efforts are in vein... And that pisses me off. *sigh* Now I'm torn apart... I only ask for one assistant, and yet I see three good catitidates.... Though it seems pointless now... since Nella mentioned that my story isn't inticing enough, so I guess in the end I really am wasting my time.

Talk like that will get you a definate No from me. So if you're looking for either a "yes" or "now" its a "NO" from me.
I also think that the other MPers will agree, that your attitude makes you seem like no one anyone here would be willing to waste their time working with.
There is no way in icy hel you'd get an artist calling them "Stupid" and acting like you're higher than them. You must have Patience in comics, nothing good comes quickly, the same goes for just writing. Everything takes TIME.
I already said there's no way in Hel I'd work for you. And I'd make a terrible assistant because I'd ask questions and have a brain. You're looking for a mindless drone to draw for you. Judgeing from what I've read from you, you'd likely get angery when the artist couldn't read your mind.

Jesus Christ you are without a doubt the biggest pr*ck I have ever had the "pleasure" of knowing.
If your attitude in real life is anything like your online persona then I am 90% sure you are never going to find anyone to work with you, and if you by some fluke do manage to find someone willing to take you on as a partner (or as you seem to want a dictator), then I'm pretty sure they will drop you after 5 minutes.

"Assistants" arn't going to take the job and then ask questions, they are going to ask questions first to see if it is the kind of job they want to take on.
You just seem to have no idea how people function.

*sits on a stone* No, I'm not the biggest pr*ck you've ever met....*Looks at Red13* I'm wearing aemor to protect myself.... You see mate, I've been rejected, and like most niggas you've come across I've shot down before I got shot first... figuratively speaking.... And I was known as a retard, while those who underestimated me wasted their potential, and lives. I couldn't help but get a sense of arrogance seeing as how all the people around me wanted to do was get high off of drugs, drink alchohol, and fornicating, and why, because the idiot next to'em what doing it. It's hard being black, and have dreams outside of getting babes to sleep with, dodging bullets, and trying to be something I'm not, while the others are doing just that... and then to top it off, I look at the other species of humanity, and see that they're no better... What else was I to think when I got angry?

Nah dogg, I'm not a pr*ck at heart....Just someone trying to find others like me in this damnable realm... And you're just as sensative as I am, but you chose a different out look on this world....And I have a good idea how people function.. all I need to do is shut up, and listen, and I'll learn what I need to know...

Hi, DreamingSoul. I'm Joey,

Joamette Gil; Monday, November 12, 2007 - 02:00

Hi, DreamingSoul. I'm Joey, and my job is to moderate these boards a.k.a. let people know when they are completely out of line.

1) I understand what you are saying. You don't want help from more than one person. You want to find your artist so that you can start developing your comic with that particular person.

That's pretty silly of you. I'm glad you say that the advice on this forum so far has helped; however, that should be enough for you to realize that none of this is a waste. How could this forum be a waste of your time when you actually got useful advice from it?

Cold hard facts: Rising Stars is a competition. Everyone can't win, no matter how talented all of the entrants are. I don't care what your motivation for entering is, but you have to stand out to even have a ghost of a chance.

So it's good that you're looking for advice. It's good that you're taking it. But if you don't have all the answers yourself, what makes you think whoever signs up to be your artist will? Taking advice from several sources is much better than rejecting all help that doesn't come from a single one. These people may not want to draw for you, but they're willing to help by questioning you... which in turn forces you to really THINK about what you're doing and why.

Accept that help with some GRACE. It's FREE ADVICE. No one in this world NEEDS to draw your story, but you do NEED someone to draw for you. You're the one that wants something. You're the one who should be patient, respectful, and kind to anyone who even shows an INKLING of interest in your story. You should be thanking people for even bothering to read this thread. It means that they CARED enough to hear what you had to say (or type).

That should mean something to you.

2) Children visit this website. I never want to see you calling anyone (or yourself) a "nigga" again.

And Red: For the love of God, don't refer to people as genitalia. Just do that simple thing for me, and I won't have to go "mod" on you, too.

Sins in need of forgiveness...

DreamingSoul; Monday, November 12, 2007 - 05:08

Dead serious...It's a gift I inherited from my parents... By your words, and actions, I can tell what kind of person I'm dealing with. If you're not gonna forgive me for my actions, I understand, and in part only see this as just another example of being proven right at how petty humans can be... Listen, I was being impatient, and for that I'm sorry...

Yes I have dreams, and fate seems to place me among others with dreams like mine.

I see...

So you're one of card holders of this place... Sorry for the racial slur though but that is what a large sum of the black community in america call themselves and prefer to be called. To be known, as an African American is a burden. Makes me sick to my stomach, but hey "c'est la vie." Besides, I appreciate the reminder, but I think my rash judgement, and arrogance drove away the only chances I had... And even before they got to know the real me... That's my curse...So Imma just bear my loss, and move on....

Yes I have dreams, and fate seems to place me among others with dreams like mine.

And this only proves that there is no such thing as "forgiveness".... I don't care if anyone disagrees on that....They'd only be telling lies....

If you're not gonna forgive me for my actions

I have been keeping up with this thread just to see where things have been going, one thing that has continued to confuse me is that you seem to change what you want and where you stand.know what you are looking for before you ask, and be open to suggestions.

Also, never bring race in, that just hurts everyone everywhere and isn't needed.

I've never has a heart, Never know love.

Yet you expect me to care, to care about you.

Now you're staring at me, You stare at me as your love fades to grey.

What did you expect, Did you expectg me to love, love you with a heart I've never had?

Well right now, I'm just looking for an artist who can draw mecha.... I already found a voluntary co-writer...
