Need help with publishing

Help! Trunx - Thursday, August 30, 2007 - 04:05

Hey everyone what's up? Well I'm writing a Shonen manga which I am trying to get off the ground and ready for this year Wizard World in Arlington, TX. But my problem is that I don't have a publisher.
If anyone could tell me of a good publisher, or if you know if self publishing is better will ya let me know? It would be greatly appreciated. Thanx again and hope to hear from someone soon.

I go where the wind takes me.

I have nothing, except to say that I believe if you self-publish, you know exactly what's happening. That's all I got. Sorry it's so meager, but I'm guessing you need something.

Well the best source I know of for publishers is at:
http://calebmonroe.com/creator-services/

The thing is, there's not that many indy manga houses that take submissions (they usually either get stuff overseas or want to develop their own stuff). And the more traditional publishers tend to shy away from straight manga material. Also, you may not have enough time to get things setup in time with a publisher and have them print in time for Wizard World.

You actually can talk and pitch you comic to publishers at Wizard World. I know I've had some good talks with folks out there. Maybe you could do a small "ashcan" of your manga to have to show at the con. A small preview that you could print at home or work. That's at least the cheapest way to do things.

Even with self publishing, you may not have enough time to get something printed. Alot of printers have a queue you have to wait through.

Here are some printers. First the big run printers. With them you print in large batches in the thousands.

http://www.morganprinting.com/
http://www.quebecor.com/

And here are some printers that allow any size print run you want.

http://www.comixpress.com/

If you need any help with Wizard World TX, I've had a table out there before and may get a table this year too.

Hey yeah would you like to split a table with me? And thanx for the info on publishing. I've found a good printer, and it's gonna be ready in time for wizard World. Oh yeah one other thing. Where do up and coming manga writers put up shop? Is it in artist ally or at the dealers booth?

I believe that would be in Artist's Alley. The dealers area is generally for larger companies and bookstores, persons dealing in Large amounts of material.

I'm probably gonna be around the Drunk Duck Tables myself ^_^ *currently has nothing to sell*

What's the title of your comic? So I can keep my eye out for it.

Hmmm, make sure you get the cover letter right. I sent a story to a publishing company and they didn't get back to me - I'm guessing because the cover letter is trash.

David Doub; Monday, September 3, 2007 - 19:16

Well anyone can get a dealers booth, but when you see the costs of them, you'd have to sell ALOT to make your money back (hence why Artist Alley tables are cheaper). But even with that Wizard World does charge more than most cons in the area.

It's 150$ for a 4 foot table. I've shared a 4 foot table at Wizard World before, so I know it's doable, you just a little tight. I try to be helpful and help sell my table partner's stuff as well.

It's a full 300 bucks for a full 8 foot table.

If you want to team on a table let me know at . I can order the table before they sell out and we can work out the details.

Nelia - Drunk Duck is coming out to Texas? I thought they only did Megacon (because half of them are in Florida)? In any case, if you do go the con, let me know so I can say Hi.

The word on DD is they're all heading to WWTexas, which makes me really happy since its the only Wizard World I can attend o_o
Thread about Wizard Texas on DD
Currently I have nothing to sell or anything but I'm hopeing to go and mingle with the DDers in person for awhile if anything ^_^
I may just freak out and run away though o_o

Sad to hear you wont have your book ready by the Con Trunx, perhaps next time then. What sort of things do you need to finish on? Formatting? Lettering?

Yeah I know. I have copyrighting to do, paying the artist, and I need to trademark the characters.
If I could get that done. Then I'll be in business.
