Help! Ren-chancrusade - Tuesday, December 4, 2007 - 12:53

Okay, so I've finally saved up enough money for some software to make digitones/coloring/finshing my work. Any suggestions? I found something called Manga Studio Ex...is that good?

Honestly I'd say get a full

David Doub; Tuesday, December 4, 2007 - 18:22

Honestly I'd say get a full blown art application like Paint Shop Pro or Adobe Photoshop. A lot of the specific brushes and templates you find in Manga Studio you can find elsewhere. And the big thing is I think Manga Studio really only works in B&W

if you can aford it, go for

Reiko Kitsune; Tuesday, December 4, 2007 - 22:41

if you can aford it, go for CS2, its the suite that comes with photoshop, premier, and illustrator and I think a few other programs.

Photoshop is more used for editing art you already have, Illustrator is more for creating the art. Illustrator is nice because it creates vectors, which means art is infinitely scalable without losing quality.

I agree. Go with photoshop

Look Its Nichole; Wednesday, December 5, 2007 - 04:52

I agree. Go with photoshop rather than something to specific, because it can do all the same things, and you can use it for something else.

Tablet pen

Ren-chancrusade; Wednesday, December 5, 2007 - 11:58

Would I need a tablet pen to do any of the coloring etc. on photoshop? Because I don't have one, and if I got photoshop, I probably wouldn't be able to get one any time soon. Also, how do you do tones on photoshop?(I know there is a tone archive, but i'm not sure my family would be too thrilled about me downloading stuff.)

There are ways to make tones

There are ways to make tones on Photoshop (unfortunately, I don't know too much about that myself).

And heavens no! You don't need a tablet to use Photoshop! To be honest, no one really needs a tablet to do anything. Tablets just make the job easier.

There are several different

Neila; Friday, December 28, 2007 - 15:48

There are several different ways to do tones in Photoshop, either as layers, or patterns with the brush ect. I cant think of how to explain it right off the top of my head though v_v

This site: Has a CD of Digital Tones with Exercises on it you can purchase for about 9 dollars and they used to have a book on how to digitally tone, but I cant find it there anymore.

Ren-chancrusade; Sunday, June 8, 2008 - 18:54

I've been meaning to post this for awhile, but thanks to the advice you guys gave me, I bought Paint Shop Pro and a tablet pen (rather than manga studio which btw does only black and white) and am super happy!
