Synopsis:
The story takes place in a world where machines called persocoms replace typical household computers. Persocoms are designed to look like human beings (aside from their odd ears) and can interact with people as though they were human. 19-year-old Hideki, a cram student, who is too poor to afford his own, comes across a discarded persocom lying in the garbage and salvages her. Once she was activated, he named her the only thing she understood how to say: "Chii". Chii, however, is not your typical persocom. "Chobits" were believed to be an urban myth, super computers capable of artificial intelligence, and Chii is a possible chobit.
Review:
This was the first manga I ever got :D (Aside from flimsy-paperback Sailor Moon & Pokemon comics XD). It's both a humorous and serious manga that can have you giggling on one page and crying on the next. The characters are vivd and gain more depth as the series progresses. It goes into how persocoms have interfered in people's lives. Many people (women, in particular) feel replaced by persocoms in their personal lives. There's a lot of little twists- secret romances especially, throughout the story. There's also a lot of of PG-13 material (no porn, but yes, PG-13 material). All in all, I LOVE this 8-part series (I just finished #6) and highly recommend it ^_^
