Title: JTHM
Author: Jhonen vasquez

ISBN: 0943151163
Pages: 100+
Price: 19.95
Rating: 9

Synopsis:

Johnny the Homicidal Maniac consists of a collection of strips, each carrying on over several pages. The story is told in a disjointed, non-linear fashion that mirrors the title character’s mental instability. It is often left unexplained which events in the story are objective and which are subjective, and very little back-story is given. This ambiguity again reflects Johnny’s character.

( thank you wikipedia )

Review:

JTHM or also known, as Johnny the homicidal maniac. This book, I warn, is not for the faint of heart. But is none the less one of the better alternitive comic books out there. first published in 1995, Johnny the homicidal maniac has become a goth cult classic, even thought, at the time period, there was no such thing as " goth comics".

The story is simple, Johnny, C. ( our main character) is a homicidal maniac, but just doesn't kill anyone ( at least not in the start) he more or less kills jerks, the scum of the earth, as to say. We fallow him, in problems with suicide, homicide, problems with love, and overall mental insability. Also, with loads of dark humor that will even get the most twisted of nickers going, And plenty of social commentary to suffice even rachel the great.

ALso fallows the adventures of happy noodle boy, public service announcement, and anne gwish

The art, by Jhonen vasquez ( whom also did the infamous invader zim) is breath taking, and fits well with his sickly dark humor. a contrast of Black and whites give this a true psychotic feeling, with out being to overwellming. the lines are crisp and clean, yet have that edgy messy kind of feeling. The art style also has a fresh geometrical sense about it.

I happend to buy the directors cut, with all seven issues, early comics and character sketchs and a ( personal, haha) interview with the mastermind of it all, jhonen vasquez. <3

so, if your ready for an interesting trip. But as I said before, this comic book isn't for young readers in the least. with gore, language and dark humor up the wazoo. I suggest some one with the mental compacity above the age of 16, be the only ones read this.

Z?

Anime Punk Joey; Thursday, February 15, 2007 - 01:45

I've got to get my claws on this one sooner or later. I keep putting it off (or rather my wallet keeps pulling it off). >.<

Ah! And anyone who is interested in JTHM will also love Vasquez's other cult favorite, Squee's Wonderful Big Giant Book of Unspeakable Horrors. :)

JTHM, everyone's starting

Sinn; Saturday, February 17, 2007 - 17:54

JTHM, everyone's starting point in the world of underground comics, and it's earned its status as a gatekeeper.

I hate to be an ass, but "Goth" did exist in 1995, in fact it began as an offshoot of the British punk scene in 1981. There it took the form of a branch of punk known as "positive punk" for it's focus on love and romanticism rather than smashing the state. Soon, with the opening of the batcave in, I think '82, it really began to take off as its own scene. It was also around then that it's fusion with punk rock and rock-a-billy produced the Psycho-billy scene. It moved on in the early 80's to the U.S. where it collided with the early American death rock scene, becoming much more akin to what it is today...

But she said goth comics

Anime Punk Joey; Saturday, February 17, 2007 - 23:33

But she said goth comics didn't exist. I don't know either way, but she still never said the goth scene wasn't there. :p
