Rachel the Great - Tuesday, February 21, 2006 - 13:03

Yesterday, as I was coming out of a local store, I noticed a pretty male in the passenger's side of a car. He wasn't a baby, like most of the males who stick around here (they're either still in highschool or geezers it seems), and his face bore striking similarities to Orlando Bloom's. The funny thing was, he was actually looking at me. Like, with interest. Like he actually could see me. Huh. Fancy that. No males around here look at me like that. They usually have boyish leers or otherwise vacant expressions when I see them. Mostly, I feel like they are looking through me at something else, they way we look through mist to see people coming at us in the fog. But, I got the distinct impression that this guy really saw me.

So, I looked right back. We continued to make eye-contact sporadically as I shuffled over to my ride and began to eat a lollipop (no, I was not doing the porn thing--it was a tiny chupa pop that made it look like I had a cigarette hanging off my lip and I did was put it in my mouth, not lick/suck it). I figured he proably had a female inside the store who would come out, and I would have to scowl at him for his wandering eyes. But it turned out the driver of the vehicle was a grizzled old white man.

Compared to the older man, the young man seemed... exotic in some way I had not noticed when he was on his own. It wasn't quite skin color, nor was it bone structure. I can't even say that he wasn't purely caucasian, because I wasn't able to discern what it was that made him stand out from his partner. It startled me to see somebody so obviously different, especially in demeanor. Most males around here are apathetic, sleeping through life. This man was definitely awake. I wanted to run over to him and say, "Who are you? How did you get sucked into Nowhere? Will you play with me?" (In the archery/card games way, you pervs!) Instead, I watched them drive off in the direction of another town. I'll probably never see him again, which is a pity. He really did seem alive.

Another thing, when the older man entered the car, the young man ceased all eye contact entirely. Strange. I love watching humans.

I bet he was thinking the same thing about you. Maybe he's tapping it into his little blog right now.

"As I was waiting for my grandfather in front of the general store, this girl came out and went to her car and we had this crazy eye contact. I really felt like she was examining me -- there was something very alive about her. Most of the girls around here are resigned to spending $40 on manicures a month and working the cash register at the little food store or a Christian Ornament store, but she was AWAKE. She looked destined to greater things. It was almost exotic. I wanted to talk to her and ask how she got stuck in a place like this, but then Gramps got back from getting hot dog buns and started bitching about how all the hot dogs were kosher. I didn't want to bring attention to his craziness, otherwise I would have waved to her or something. Ah well... c'est la vie!"

Worst case scenario: He is insane, like all the other males who so far have managed to actually perceive that I exist on the same plane as they long enough to make their romantic intentions known.

I will just tell myself that he was perfectly sane.

(And that he was also a theoretical physicist with mad shaman skills.)

Physics? Shaman

Anime Punk Joey; Wednesday, March 1, 2006 - 01:12

Physics? Shaman powers?

Well, damn. If he was a linguist too, he'd be absolutely perfect!
