Today is National Vow of Silence Day for the Gay and Lesbian (as well as Transvestite and Transsexual) Community. I have actually taken the Vow of Silence, which for me is amazing because I SERIOUSLY can not keep my mouth shut for more than two or more seconds. But since I heard the news, my lips have been zipped...as well as numerous classmates. It's actually much easier than I thought. Even my most evil teachers have become leniant when I just hand in the piece of paper explaining why I'm not talking. In fact, I have received a lot of respect and accomadations from the teachers, which makes me very happy. No talking makes asking questions like "How are we going to explain we're not talking to the evil Science teacher from hell who doesn't believe in gay or lesbian people?" to my friend who takes the same Chem class rather difficult, but with pens and a free spot on our arms, it works out. We gesticulate a lot and smile and hug and wave and flap and mouth and mock-sign language and somehow, we get the point across. It acutally is really fun, and I can't wait for next year's National Vow of Silence Day.
And for any wise-crackers out there, just because I've duct-taped my mouth doesn't mean my fingers don't work.
Even though I'm not any of those things, a lot of my friends are, and I feel good protesting the social injustices put upon them because they have endured a lot. I love my friends dearly, and this is my (silent) way of supporting them.
Already half way through the day, and I only had one accidental slip-up, and I only meant to mouth it but somehow it became a whisper. I'm going to kill myself for that one. *cries* But somehow, I'm still making it work. It was something in Italian any way, so we're going to PRETEND it doesn't count.
Wish my luck-luck!
