So Apparently...

Hairballed Kat's picture
Hairballed Kat - Monday, January 7, 2008 - 20:56

Nobody wants to give money to an underachieving (actually, I work really hard, but my GPA from 9th and 10th grade in which I was dealing with mental illness has dragged my overall GPA below a 3.0) Jewish white girl majoring in English. What's up with that?

I got into the college of my choice, a somewhat prestigious, small private school (read: really expensive) and I got a pretty good scholarship and a financial aid estimate that's not solid, but it doesn't look good. The school/gov't will only cover an eighth of the cost and is offering me another eighth of loan. I don't want to go to any other schools, for which the applications are due in about one week...

AHHHHHHHH

I'll sell my hair, I'll go into indentured servitude (i.e. work-study)... anything to make this work... Pleaaaase, heathen gods of tuition... have mercy.

NUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!

*clings*

Don't you dare touch your hair, young lady! :o

Have you tried FastWeb.com? It's a scholarship search engine, and you can typically find scholarships that are essay-based rather than "look at me I'm poor"-based. You've got the writing skill, so make it pay! :D

Also, I highly recommend that you talk some sense into your patrons and convince them to let you apply to other schools - even if they are simply fall-backs; however, don't sweat the deadline because there's always the Winter quarter/semester option for enrollment.

Gah. Good luck, Katty!

PS: I went to MP Classic the other day and read the origin story behind the name "Hairballed Kat" for the first time. I had no idea! *snuggles*

Oh my gosh, Joey. I just can't stop laughing today!
My advice, Kat, is to write, beg, plead and flutter your eyelashes at tons of grumpy old supes or whatever the heads of college are called. And show off what you've done that makes you different than others.

Hairballed Kat; Friday, January 11, 2008 - 00:44

Mehh, I look at Fastweb, and there are a few scholarships I may apply to... I'm getting together my applications to other schools...

My main fear has switched from money (which I think my mother has conceded is do-able) to keeping my grades up. My mom is now convinced that I'm going to have one of my fairly regular but decreasing mental breakdowns (it is getting to be that time of year) and my grades will be so affected that I will be kicked out of the college I was accepted to or possibly denied my scholarship. To be honest, I am scared shipless of this very possibility. I'm applying to other schools in case it happens, according to my mom, because if it does it's either a backup school or *shudder* community college. I guess if I get accepted to another school I won't have to accept until May... but... I don't know, I'm pretty sure everyone has to take that risk and decline enrollment in the other schools to go to the one they pick, so I don't think it's ok for me to promise to go to one school and let the other ones wait for my response for months...

You just do what you have to

Anime Punk Joey; Friday, January 11, 2008 - 20:15

You just do what you have to do, love (even if it means you have to be slightly rude to a few rich farts who offer you the "privilege" of going to their school). *hugs*

Dungionman 3; Tuesday, January 15, 2008 - 14:36

Dude, If you where wanting a shorter "do", ( stupid girly word! >;P )
Sell your hair! I didn't know people bought hair, but anyway, to sell your hair, make sure you where going to cut it anyway or your mom will freak out:
EX:
mom: "What happened to your hair?!?!?!?!"

You: "I sold it to go to school"

Mom: "WHAT?!?!?!? WHY? THAT'S SO STUPID! LOOK AT YOUR BEAUTIFUL HAIR!
well, it's not beautiful anymore...BUT STILL! WHYYYYYYYYYY??????
WHY DIDN'T YOU SELL YOUR BROTHER INSTEAD??????"

Of course your mom doesn't mean this, but that's an excuse to sell your brother!

Anyway, Seriously! Ithink you should just sell your brother's stuff that he shoves under your bed. (ok, MY brother puts everything in My room [tossing tem in carelessly! ;( ] O, I despise him!)
