Web comic

Caitlin Willow - Friday, May 5, 2006 - 21:05

I am trying o sound as profesional as I can without making a fool of myself, but how do you start up awebsite and a web comic? I've had a couple good ideas for a comic and I have a nice new scanner, but I really have no idea. I am not exactly a genius when it comes to HTML and XHTML and stuff.( I have been learning though)
Just how do you do it? My dad whos a big computer genius keeps telling me to do it by myself and learn something.

If you have a program like

Joamette Gil; Friday, May 5, 2006 - 23:37

If you have a program like Microsoft FrontPage or Macromedia DreamWeaver on your computer, I suggest you start playing with them. They are both software used for making websites. FrontPage requires little-to-no knowledge of HTML. Dreamweaver is good for novices as well, but it can be a far more powerful and effective tool in the hands of a professional. You can continue to rely on it as you learn and improve. ;)

After your site has been built, you'll need a webhost: basically, a server site that gives you a certain amount of space to put your site files up on. Seeing as you still don't know much about site building, I would suggest looking for a free webhosting service.

Some sites where you can get your own site for free and customize it quick and easy right online are FreeServers.com and FreeWebs.com. I suggest going for FreeWebs.com mainly because if you PM Hairballed Kat, she might tell you how she got that spiffy comics display module on her site. Take a look at it here.

Thank you

Thank you! It must be easy to tell that I'm new at this!
I'll look into some of those programs. Also is Adobe photoshop a good deal when it is $ 100 at Staples? Is there a website were you can buy it cheaper?
Again, I must say I do sound like a novice!

WHOAH

$100? For Photoshop?! That's the cheapest I've ever seen it! Which version is it?

I won't bore you with my views on bootleggers, but I suggest getting someone to download the program for you anyway. Countless talented digital artists out there would have never achieved the level of skill they've attained without file sharing. If that's not your thing, though, try using GIMP. I don't know much about it, but according to Nichole it's (legally) free and a good program for image editting. Not as good as PS, but still usable. ;)

And that's great! Let your inexperience hang out in the open! it's the only way people with helpful knowledge will know that you need it. :)
