As for the comic itself, it's been theorized recently that some women are genetically programmed to be like that. No matter how much you tell them that they're going the wrong way with love, they keep doing the same things.
I've been in his shoes several times. In college, there was a woman I liked that was dating a guy who was already married. (He played guitar in a local band, and had several girlfriends, none of which knew about each other.) When I informed her of the guy's wife and his other girlfriends, she went into severe denial. I got two of his girlfriends with this woman together, and informed them all that they were dating the same guy. They refused to believe me, until I asked them to name their boyfriend.
One of them decided to continue dating this guy, even though she found out he had several girlfriends and a wife. There was a bit of hope though; when the wife found out about the girlfriends, she divorced him.
Is there any hope for them? Well, yes. One of the girls who was dating him left and dated me for a bit, before she died.
