So I’m looking at DC’s list of what they’re going to be releasing in January and February of 2007, and it brought home to me just how little of their product I care about any more.
So here’s some snark about it:
FALLEN ANGEL VOL. 2: DOWN TO EARTH TP
Writer: Peter David
Artists: David Lopez and [...]

Love and Capes will put out issue #3 for Valentine’s Day; here’s the cover.
Andi Watson does manga! He’s posted half of his “Princess at Midnight” story (25 pages), which will be appearing in The Mammoth Book of Best New Manga.
Earlier this week, I told you about Jim Ottaviani’s upcoming Levitation. Now I have a [...]

Miriam Engelberg, who wrote about her struggles with breast cancer in the autobiographical Cancer Made Me a Shallower Person, has passed away.
A close friend sent out an email which included the following:
Miriam Engelberg died at home earlier today. She had her family and close friends with her and was not in a coma. As [...]

While at SPX, I had the chance to talk for a bit with the talented Jim Ottaviani. He didn’t have a new book this year (his most recent is Bone Sharps, Cowboys, and Thunder Lizards), but he had small posters promoting the next one, Levitation (with a gorgeous cover by Michael Kaluta).
It’s going to [...]

I came back early from SPX under the theory that you enjoy something more if you leave while you still want more. It seems to have worked.
I’m still figuring out my reaction to the show… the new location was a nifty building, wonderful to stay in and beautiful, but the area wasn’t as convenient. [...]

Gene Yang’s American Born Chinese is a National Book Award nominee in the Young People’s Literature category. (Here’s the publisher’s announcement.)
I am told (via Heidi) that these are extremely important publishing awards and that this is their first ever graphic novel nomination. Interesting that it’s in the “for kids” category, isn’t it? That seems [...]

I’d previously reviewed the nature minicomic Mr. Big. Now comes word that the collected edition will be the debut book from a new graphic novel line. Here’s the press release:
Silent Devil will announce Little Foot Publishing, its new line of creator-owned graphic novels, at SPX in Bethesda, Maryland, this weekend. The debut title, Mr. [...]

Following up on the Publishers Weekly comic bestseller list, thanks to Jason Rodriguez, I’ve now seen an image, which I’ve posted here.
There’s no more information on their methodology, but I like the callouts giving more information on particular books. And look, it gives them a place to sell a graphic novel ad!

It looks like Publishers Weekly is taking a stab at the long-requested combined comic sales list. This week, they began publishing a comic bestseller list, the top ten titles for the month “compiled from data from bookstores and comics shops”.
Unsurprisingly, it’s all manga, except for The 9/11 Report: A Graphic Adaptation at #2 and [...]

Here’s a creative take on the “buy this book or we kill the dog” marketing approach first used by the National Lampoon. Writer Tony Lee set it up to ask for preorders on the upcoming Midnight Kiss collection from Markosia.
Midnight KissBuy this book
Imaginative and entertaining as his post is, this gives me a bad [...]

Following up on the earlier question about why individual credits were removed from the Justice Society collection, someone claiming to be Paul Levitz has posted the following (a few up from the bottom of the page):
I apologize for the lack of credits on the individual stories, an error I personally found heart-breaking because of [...]
